Instagram dm for clients

I authorize Pabbly Support to log in to my account and make changes to the specified workflow for troubleshooting.
Regarding the "Instagram (Developer)" integration, I have a specific question about the onboarding process for my clients.

I want to manage 5-10 third-party client accounts. I want to make the connection process as simple as possible for them—ideally, without requiring them to ever open the Meta Developer Portal or add themselves as testers.

My specific question:

Is there any "official" or "simpler" way within Pabbly Connect to have a third party (who is NOT a developer/tester of my app) connect their account to my workflow?

If the answer is "No," am I correct in assuming that my only option is to:

1. Complete the Meta App Review for my app.

2. Build a custom OAuth login page to provide them with their Access Token and Account ID so they can paste them into Pabbly?

I just want to confirm if I’m missing any easier alternative for managing multiple third-party accounts.

Best regards

Hi @boo,

Thank you for your detailed query.

At the moment, the only supported way to connect accounts using the Instagram (Developer) integration is the method outlined in the forum guide below:

https://forum.pabbly.com/threads/connection-guide-instagram-developer.34345/

Apart from the process described there, there is no alternative or simplified official method within Pabbly Connect to allow third-party clients (who are not added as developers/testers) to connect their accounts directly.

So yes, if you want to onboard multiple third-party client accounts without adding them as testers, the approach would require:
  1. Completing Meta App Review for your app.
  2. Implementing your own OAuth flow to generate access tokens and account IDs that can then be used inside Pabbly.
Currently, there is no built-in simplified authorization mechanism available in Pabbly Connect for this use case.
Please let us know if you need clarification on any of the steps mentioned in the guide.

Hi,

I have one more clarification regarding Instagram for Business authentication.

From what I understand, even when using Instagram Graph API / Instagram for Business, Facebook Login still seems to be mandatory.

Is there really no alternative authentication method?

My situation is:
• I want to connect multiple client Instagram accounts
• I only need API access (comments, replies, etc.)
• I do NOT want to ask clients to create a Facebook account or Facebook Page
• Asking for their username/password is obviously not acceptable
• I just want a simple “Connect Instagram” flow

So my question is:

Is Facebook Login + Page connection strictly required by Meta’s architecture,
or is there any other way to authenticate and obtain access tokens for client accounts without requiring Facebook account/page setup?

For example:
Can we use any token-based or backend-only method instead of Facebook Login?

I want to minimize friction for clients as much as possible.

Thank you.

I am afraid that's not possible. You need to link the Instagram for Business account with a Facebook Page and make the connection using your Facebook account. This is a limitation from Meta’s end, and there is no alternative authentication method available at the moment.

I understand that App Review is required, but do I also need to switch the app to Live mode?”

Yes, switching the Meta app to Live mode is required.

Even after completing and getting approval through Meta App Review, the app will continue to work only for app admins, developers, and testers while it remains in Development mode.

To allow third-party client accounts (who are not added as testers or developers) to authorize the app, you must:
  1. Complete Meta App Review for the required Instagram permissions.
  2. Switch the app to Live mode.

Until the app is Live, Meta does not allow external users to complete the OAuth authorization flow, regardless of App Review approval.
