The Zulip team is super responsive and I'm sure would work with you. You could quite simply set up a free account for testing purposes. Any integration should support both their cloud servers and the self hosted edition - but I think other than server addresses, it's all the same.

Looking through the integration options for Slack and Rocket.chat (both similar services) will give you a great starting point. Posting in a particular channel, either as a bot or impersonating a user (better?)....sending DM's....Creating a topic inside a channel and posting there...parsing email attachments and posting them into a channel...etc, etc
