The 504 Gateway Timeout you are seeing typically indicates a transient/timeout response rather than a mapping issue, especially since the same WhatsApp step with identical variables works fine in the other router branch. When one router branch fails intermittently while another with the same configuration succeeds, it is worth confirming that the failing branch's step is receiving non-empty input and that no upstream step in that branch is returning null or timing out.

To help us investigate further, could you please share:

1. As the templates are different in both steps, can you check if the specifications of the template is also the same.

2. The working action step has a URL mapped in the second parameter, whereas the non-working action has simple text mapped. Can you check if the second parameter has the same specification?
