Setting Lanaguage for Customer

How to set a language preference for the customer? If a customer does a purchase he can choose a country, but how to guide him to a localized checkout + storing the language prefence in the customer object for the further use of the product purchased?

We thought we might create a custom field for this and prefill it when calling the HPP but it seems this is not possible accoring to https://forum.pabbly.com/threads/prefilling-fields-on-the-checkout-page.3469/
